Double Nissan Wrecks 9.17.12
I came upon wreck #1 on my way down 839 heading to an appointment in Glasgow. The lady had rounded the curve too quickly in the drizzle and lost control. Her Nissan Altima crossed a yard, driveway and obliterated a telephone pole before coming to rest backwards amongst the tall field grass. She was taken away via ambulance.
Wreck #2 happened in my neighbors field as I was editing the photos from wreck #1. I heard a loud boom and scraping sound. Instinctual self-preservation insisted that I look outside. Upon my observation, I was aware of a white car slightly steaming at an odd angle at the end of their driveway. One could only deduce that a wreck had occurred. I frantically grabbed my cellphone (to call 911) and my camera. Almost forgot my SD card, but grabbed it and ran. The driver was OK. The man was thought to have been recently ill and was examined by the emergency responders. Apparently, he too lost control in the drizzle and exited the road. His Nissan violently descended into a ditch and by some miracle of God, kept going parallel to the field for several hundred feet, missing countless small trees, before coming to rest at the end of the driveway. The difficult part was encouraging the man to remain still and out of the road until the responders arrived as he was walking around in a daze from either shock or the illness which was never disclosed by the responders as we talked while waiting for the wrecker.
What I find odd, is both wrecks occurred via a newer model Nissan Altima and both were on my road. Irony exists in strange places.
Equipment: Nikon D40, 55-200mm.
Software: Lightoom 3.
