10.10.12: Albino Squirrels of Bowling Green
During the last part of my Daughter's field trip, we stopped at Lampkin Park in Bowling Green, KY so the kids could eat and play. I saw what I thought was an albino squirrel, but later discovered was a white squirrel. Apparently Bowling Green is one of many towns across the US with a concentrated population of these unique squirrels. This one was very fast and shy as it hid from me on top of a large, walnut tree branch. After 20 minutes waiting, I was disappointed to have not gotten a better shot, but thankful that I saw and documented one in person. Back at the canopy, gummy bears and cinnamon Teddy Grahams where left scattered across the pavement like casualties of war. A very brave squirrel was less than 200mm from me enjoying the smorgasbord. I stood transfixed documenting. It eventually left (with full cheeks!) before I could get closer.
